West Birchwood
The West Birchwood Civic Association
Dear Residents,

As many of you may already know, there have been a series of robberies in our development over the past few weeks.  For those of you that have emailed me, I appreciate being kept in the loop.  As I am trying to address your concerns, I have been reaching out to Town and County Top Executives, and have also Copied Senator Carl Marsellino on my emails.

Though you all are very concerned about the safety and security of your families, we must keep ourselves composed to avoid any mayhem and embellished stories to what is the truth and what is not.  In talking to Inspector Allen, of the second precinct today, I have been given a clear explanation on how to update the community on the current robbery status.  Extra undercover and marked patrol cars have been assigned to West Birchwood as well as the surrounding neighborhoods.  Naturally it is always suggested that if you see something, say something.  Since we are a "robbery active neighborhood", the Police Department is urging you to call 911 if you notice any suspicious activity at all. Since this criminal activity is happening in several towns within our precinct, your help is needed,  as they will try and react in an timely manner.

Although they do have a success story of catching someone associated with a West Birchwood robbery, they also know at this point that the number of instances have not gone down. They know that there is an association to a professional burglary ring with a number of members connected to it, and are working on this "county" wide problem which is unrelated to the previous arrest. Officials will be setting up a meeting with the WBCA board to give us more detailed information.  I have requested a check list from the POP unit and will email it and have it posted to the website, when it becomes available. I have also been in contact with the town and have been advised that last night and and once again tonight, they are doing a clean sweep of West Birchwood for lighting outages. At this point, there are 9 locations which will need more detailed work, and can not be done until there is a ground thaw.

I strongly suggest that alarms are set and light /televisions are left on in your absence. Cars should be locked and valuables should not be left in them overnight. In the past I have suggested that on snow days, to please contact someone you know to shovel or use our landscaper (516) 661-1111, as opposed to random people knocking on your front door.  We will continue to keep you all informed as we get more information.  I hope this will make everyone in the community aware and alert. Once we have our meeting, I will email you any information and updates regarding West Birchwood.  For now, lets all stick together and "keep reaching out to friends and families for a better West Birchwood.

Best Regards as always,
Glenn DeBello
