What’s New at the Jericho Fire Department

Training Facility Opens

A new training facility has been opened behind Station # 2 on Cantiague Rock Road. The facility, built by American Fire Systems of Lockport, Illinois, is constructed of 7 prefabricated modular sections joined together to provide a 2 story training building. Jericho firefighters now have the opportunity to train in simulated fire situations without the hazards of actual fire or toxic smoke. Through the use of a smoke generator, moveable walls, below grade rescue simulator and roof rescue area firefighters will be able to hone their skills in a relatively safe environment.

New Fire Engine Delivered

The Jericho Fire Department has just taken delivery of a new 1500 gallon per minute pumper which replaced one that was 19 years old. This state of the art engine, built by Pierce Fire Apparatus  and known as number 943, is located at Station # 2 on Cantiague Rock Road. It carries an on board water supply of 500 gallons, 40 gallons of foam concentrate, thousands of feet of supply and attack hose, ladders, forcible entry tools, a heat sensing camera, Carbon Monoxide meter and many other specialized firefighting and rescue tools. Manned by the members of Trident Engine Company 3, 943 along with its almost twin, engine 945, will provide a considerable firefighting capability for the residents.

Residents are welcome to stop by Jericho Fire Station # 2 on Cantiague Rock Road to see both the new training facility and new fire engine, both designed to

better serve the community.

Additional Medications Added to Ambulances

The Jericho Fire Department was recently approved by the New York State Department of Health to carry additional medications particularly useful in cardiac and seizure medical emergencies. The Jericho Fire Department is the only agency carrying these advanced medications in this area and is one of only three fire departments in all of Nassau County authorized and trained to use them. The Chiefs and Commissioners have been working on this project for over 3 years.

The Jericho Volunteer Fire Department is comprised of 130 men and women whose membership includes Paramedics, Advanced and Basic EMT’s, a Doctor, and Nurses. The Fire District also employees a first response Paramedic on duty from 6 AM to 6 PM Monday to Friday. The Jericho Fire Department never charges for medical assistance or emergency  ambulance  transportation as do some agencies. Together with our fire department volunteers and the Paramedic on duty, advanced life support is but minutes away

Residents protected by the Jericho Fire Department are reminded to call

931-0898 for medical or fire emergencies. Calling 9-1-1 will delay our response, however you can still request the fire department ambulance if calling 9-1-1.
