Dear Residents,
As a reminder, we are holding our
Spring/Summer meeting on Wednesday May 21, 2008 at 7:30
pm at the Old Firehouse across from CVS. All members and
non members are asked to come out and show your support, bring a
neighbor or a friend. We will be discussing plans regarding
improvements for the upcomming year as well as taking suggestions
from West Birchwood residents.
Beautification Mailer:
As of today we have received
donations for our 2008 beautification project from 75 homes totaling
$4600.00. To date we are ahead in the responses and hope to
exceed last years total. If you have not sent in your
donation, please do so today. If you misplaced your
mailer all donations can be sent in to WBCA PO Box 240, Jericho
New York 11753. Lets make this happen. The money is put
back into the community toward improvements and upgrades to West
Birchwood.
Sump/Park Update:
As you know , last year we had
contacted the Nassau County Department of Public works, approaching
them to convert sump # 419 on Rockland Drive into a community park
for West Birchwood Residents. Well, the good news is that they have
been down to the location, evaluated the area, and are very
receptive to move forward. This is just the beginning.
We will need to go out to the homes that back this area on Rockland
Drive, Warren Drive, Fulton Place and Steuben Drive and have
them support us to move forward. At that point we will have a
meeting with the N C Department of Public works and have them
evaluate how much of the property they can allocate for a park since
the sump is still functional. This conversion will
enhance the overall location and will be maintained by the
County. If this becomes final, we can discuss adding
some upgrades at entrance points and possibly raising separate
funds to maximize the project. We will have more
information for you at the meeting and post our progress in a
community letter and on our website as we move
forward.
Security Issues:
As posted previously there have been
a number of homes that have emailed me that their cars have been
broken into on their driveways and in front of their houses.
GPS devices and other electronics have been lifted. I strongly
suggest that you remove these and other valuables from your
car at night and make sure that your car doors are fully
locked. Any suspicious activity should be reported to the
police department by calling 911. " If you see something,
say something! " It is important that we make a conscious
effort to report any suspicious activity.
Road Repaving Update:
As of today, we have not gotten any
direction from the Town of Oyster Bay road division on what their
plans/budget is for this year to repave some roads in West
Birchwood. I have been following up with them periodically and
they have assured me that as soon as they have information they will
be in touch with me. In turn I will let all of you know what the
outcome is.
